Service-Learning Students showcased innovative ideas in caring for DEI

“HSUHK students showcased innovative ideas in caring for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).”

The BUS3008 Service-Learning Project, jointly organised by the Service-Learning Section of the Centre for Teaching and Learning and the Department of Marketing, successfully connected HSUHK students with L’Oréal Hong Kong, a globally recognised cosmetics and beauty company.

Seminar and Preparation

134 participants were divided into 25 teams. Each team selected a target DEI group to brainstorm ideas and create a marketing proposal. Students and staff attended a seminar on Diversity Equity and Inclusion with real life examples and practical applications from L’Oreal Group and Jardine Aviation Services Group.

Through research, they proposed innovative ideas to meet the needs of their respective DEI groups.

Pitch Day

Top 3 finalists were invited to the Pitch Day on 8 Jan 2024 at L’Oréal Hong Kong Office. We were very honoured to have Ms Jade Lui (Talent Management Director & DE&I Correspondent for L’Oréal Hong Kong) (Left), Mr Roy Ying (Programme Director,  BBA-Marketing at HSUHK) (Right) to be the judges and provide unreserved feedback to the finalists.

An outstanding team consisted of HSUHK students Yu Xingyan, Tiffany (Second from the left), Jassanpreet Kaur (Third from the left), who collaborated with exchange students from overseas universities. Their creative idea aimed to enhance the beauty experience for visually impaired individuals through innovative transformation of cosmetic products.

Their impressive performance captivated the panel of judges, leading them to be crowned Champion. They have also been nominated for the Service-Learning Excellence Award, which includes a cash prize of HK$1,000. Good job and congratulations!

Student Sharing

“Participating in BUS3008 Service-Learning gave me a deeper understanding of global market products and their adaptation for diverse communities, especially those with disabilities. It inspired me to explore socially responsible business practices that make a positive impact while being profitable. Integrating Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles into global marketing is crucial for reaching diverse consumer groups and expanding market reach. I look forward to further engaging in direct service-learning projects, incorporating real-life case studies of successful socially responsible global marketing campaigns in class to provide practical insights and showcase the benefits of such initiatives.”
