“Paving the Way for Students to Drive Meaningful Change Through Serve2Learn”

The Serve2Learn Talk Series 2025/26, designed to inspire students by linking academic knowledge with real-world community issues, launched its first session on 19 September 2025. The talk, titled “ESG and Sustainability Business Practices in Hong Kong and Beyond,” drew participation from 48 students and staff, including Mr. Alan To’s GEN1022 class.
Mr. Bill Tsang, Head of ESG at Roma Group Limited, led the seminar, offering insightful perspectives on how businesses integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into their operations. He illustrated the importance of governance for students by saying, “Governance is the most important because it is the leaders in a corporation who hold the power to make decisions that drive ESG initiatives forward and create significant impact.” He challenged conventional views that place the environment first, explaining that without strong governance, sustainability efforts cannot successfully take root.

The seminar provided students with a clear understanding that companies pursue sustainability goals not only for regulatory compliance but also to meet customer expectations and attract investors for long-term business viability. Mr. Tsang offered practical tips on navigating ESG reports before job interviews: “When reading a thick ESG report, focus first on the chairman’s message, the company’s targets, and materiality assessment—that’s where the core insights lie.” This pragmatic advice equipped students with useful tools for career readiness.
Students shared positive feedback, such as:
- “This talk is very useful, expanding my understanding of sustainability business practices.”
- “I learned the importance of ESG in companies.”
- “The presentation was detailed, engaging, and inspiring.”
- “Thank you for helping us understand more about environmental practices.”
The Serve2Learn series will continue offering expert insights on topics including community care, social enterprise, and career readiness. Students are encouraged to enroll in upcoming talks to deepen their learning and connect academic study with real-world impact.
